Hawki provides health care coverage for uninsured children under the age of 19.

The child must be a citizen or a lawfully admitted resident and meet the income guidelines.

Services covered under Hawki include:

  • Hospital care
  • Prescriptions
  • Vaccines
  • Emergencies
  • Surgery
  • Dental care
  • Vision exams
  • Mental Health
  • Chiropractic care

Wayne County Public Health helps to complete an application or a renewal. Even if you currently have insurance but think you may qualify, call us and we can help with the application process as well as answer any questions you may have.

Even if you have private health insurance you can be eligible for dental coverage through Hawki.

When a child is enrolled, they will be eligible for 12 months. Coverage must be renewed every year. Renewal forms must be completed and returned every year in order for coverage to continue.

The Covering Kids and Families project in rural Iowa increases awareness of the availability of free or low-cost health insurance for children. The South Central Regional Coalition works with partners from Appanoose, Clarke, Decatur, Jasper, Lucas, Marion, Monroe, Poweshiek, Ringgold, and Wayne counties to reach families.
