Free Clinic of Wayne County
This clinic will be under the auspice of Free clinics of Iowa. At the end of July 2021, Free Clinics of Iowa’s board of directors voted to have Wayne County’s clinic be the 31st such clinic in Iowa. By going under the auspice of Free clinics of Iowa, they do all background checks on volunteers and will provide professional liability insurance at each of our sites for providers, nurses, paramedics, EMTs who volunteer. We will also receive some funding from them.
The clinics will be held every 4th Tuesday at the Wayne County Public Health Office at 105 N. Lafayette Corydon, IA. Both will be held 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Must check in by 6:00 p.m. There will be a provider, nurse or EMT and a support staff person volunteering at each clinic. It will be a walk in clinic; no appointments taken as there will be no phone. If you have questions you can call Wayne County Public Health Monday thru Fridays from 8-4 pm at 641-872-1167.
The clinic is focused on providing healthcare to those without insurance, those with high deductibles and underinsured. No insurance card will be required and anyone can go to either clinic location. There will be no charge to see the provider, any labs needed the Free Clinic will cover costs if $ 10.00 and under. We are working with a lab that serves other free clinics in Iowa so lab costs for these clinics have been adjusted. If the clinic does not have the needed medication on site than prescriptions can be taken to Your Neighborhood Pharmacy to be filled. The Free Clinic of Wayne will cover prescription costs of $ 10.00 or less and over that is patient costs. We have a plan in place with this pharmacy and they have adjusted costs to help the patient. Donations will be accepted as that is how the clinic will operate.
The clinic has no intention of competing or take away service from other area healthcare facilities but to help those get healthcare who won’t or can’t because they don’t have health insurance or their copays/deductibles are very high.
This is a partnership with Wayne County Public Health, Wayne County Hospital and Your Neighborhood Pharmacy and all the wonderful people in the area who have volunteered to make this happen. At this time we have over 30 volunteers signed up to assist with this project.
The Medical Director is Clayton Merritt, ARNP and Susan Moore, RN will be the Clinical Manager. The clinics will also have available childhood, Adult Tetanus, flu and Covid vaccines as well.

Our goal is to have many volunteers so they won’t have to work all the time because most volunteers help with other projects in the county as well.
